A commanding performance from Deepti Sharma (53 & 3/54) allowed Team India to stage a solid performance despite unexpected pitfalls. A half-century with the bat that came at a time when India were staring down the barrel, followed by a three-fer with the ball put Deepti Sharma in the driver’s seat for the Player of the Match award contention, which was eventually secured by the all-rounder.

Talking at the post-match conference, Deepti Sharma opened up on her 103-run partnership with Amanjot Kaur while also shedding some light on the conditions that defined the game. She concluded with a message for the upcoming days in the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Explaining her partnership with Amanjot, Deepti added, “It (partnership with Amanjot) was a turning point, we had lost back to back wickets, we spoke about taking the game deep till the 46-47th over. There was no pressure, I am used to such situations and playing such knocks. The partnership was important with Amanjot.”

Talking about her performance in the game, Sharma said, “I enjoy my batting. When the wicket is like this then I focus on my stock ball and try to hit the stumps. First match sets the tone and we have a lot of positives. We want to play like this and keep winning.”
