We'll try to acclimatise as soon as possible – Shreyas Iyer ahead of India’s series opener against New Zealand
Team India will be locking horns with New Zealand in what will be the opening game of the India-New Zealand multi-format series. The salience of this contest will be sky-high for the Men in Blue for multiple reasons, with Shreyas Iyer up against one of the toughest challenges of his captaincy reign.
Talking ahead of the series opener in Christchurch at the pre-match presser, Shreyas Iyer made it clear that despite him being a part of tours to New Zealand before, it won’t be easy to predict what lies ahead of them. However, he is excited to be a part of various conditions that has panned all the way from Japan to New Zealand.
Highlighting the potential conditions, Iyer said, “I've also been here before, and it's not like the conditions are completely different. But on a given day, no one knows how the wicket will be. So, we'll try to acclimatise as soon as possible, and if we have a good practice session, then every individual will get a fair idea about how to plan.”
He further added, “It's fun at the same time to be traveling, playing and getting accustomed to new conditions. We just want to put the reasons aside and see to it about how we would be planning to win.”
Explaining the challenges of adapting to different conditions, Iyer added, “We have been playing so continuously, from Japan to India, from India to New Zealand. Continuously, we are used to it now, in a way. So, this pattern has been set in our system. We are getting less sleep, but the more matches we play, the better it is for us.”
