Life likes to hurl new challenges at us every day. We encounter a range of challenges in life that makes us feel repugnant. Several questions keep prowling in one's mind. How will I overcome this? How should I approach the challenge? What if it does not work? However, certain individuals may not realise that the battle to resolve the inconvenience can be won in the simplest of ways.

Qualifier 1, IPL 2017 - Washington Sundar, in a high profile knockout game, was assigned to take ownership of the new ball duties against a formidable Mumbai batting unit. Who would have envisioned a captain handing the ball over to a 17-year-old in a power play? In Sundar's world, it was just a regular day at the workplace. Having been accustomed to bowling in the initial stages of the innings at a very young age, he knew that calmness would prove to be effective at such times. What followed next was ineffable. The youngster, with his tactful and nagging lengths, gagged the 'big three' of Mumbai Indians batting attack all in the space of the powerplay -- Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, and Kieron Pollard. Add to this, Washington was the second-most economical bowler in IPL 2017, with an impressive economy rate of 6.16.

The mature display of bowling from a teenager, though, had left the skipper, Steve Smith baffled. “What an unbelievable performance by a young seventeen-year-old on the big stage. I throw him the ball in the first six overs when the batsmen are going after him and he takes three. At times I feel what he looks to do there and what his plans are. I  am proud of Sundar and it was great watching him bowl so well,” Smith was quoted as saying on iplt20.com.

Martin Luther King junior had once famously remarked: "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge." Bowling at the toughest phase of the innings, Washington Sundar has constantly reminded us of his combative outlook. That, in itself, speaks volumes about the competencies of the 20-year-old.
