Yastika Bhatia carves her name on the Lord’s Test Honours Board after commanding ton
History was made for the Indian women as Yastika Bhatia became the first woman batter to carve her name on the Lord’s Test batting honours board, scoring a superb ton to propel India into the driver’s seat.
Bhatia started the third day of the Test with 39 runs in her bank while Smriti Mandhana led the charge. Yastika didn’t want to scamper through her gears as she timed her innings to perfection. Batting with incredible temperament, she breezed past the English bowling unit to carve her maiden Test century.
Bhatia brought up her half-century in the 47th over, driving Lauren Bell straight down the ground. She doubled down with her efforts of turning it into a big innings. As India motored along, she eventually crossed the magic figure in the 68th over, nicking a single off Issy Wong.
Bhatia’s 113 off 158 balls was one of the major stepping stones for India as they posted 341/7 before Harmanpreet Kaur declared. The Indian bowlers hacked their way through the English resistance as at the end of the day’s play, the hosts stuttered at 130/6. India will need four wickets to wrap up the game and add another glistening chapter to the continuum of Indian dominance in WTests in England.
