You're always trying to play the catch up game – Shubman Gill on India's loss in 1st ODI

India couldn’t conjure a solid show in the ODI series opener at Optus as they succumbed to Australia in a truncated encounter. After being put to bat, India lost the plot early as wickets kept on crumbling. The Rain Gods didn’t make things easy either as there were quite a few stops along the way, killing whatever momentum India could build.

Talking at the post-match presentation, India skipper Shubman Gill opened up on where things went wrong for the Men in Blue while underlining the positives. He also thanked fans for turning up in overwhelming numbers while concluding things with a note for Adelaide.

Gill said, “When you lose three wickets in the powerplay, you're always trying to play a catch-up game (on the rain delays and the poor start). A lot of learnings for us from this game and a lot of positives for us as well. We were defending 130 and we took the game, not till the very end, but pretty deep. We were very satisfied with that.”

Shubman concluded by saying, “We are very fortunate (on the crowd support). The fans turned up in huge numbers and hopefully they'll be able to cheer us on at Adelaide as well.”
