All players are well-equipped to handle pressure – Amol Muzumdar
India will be taking on New Zealand in an all-important clash as part of the Women's World Cup 2025, in a bid to stake a claim for a spot in the top four. After suffering three defeats on the trot, Indian coach Amol Muzumdar has opened up on what has gone wrong and where exactly things could have been better. In the pre-match presser, Muzumdar clarified that he is not willing to put pressure on individuals to win the match single-handedly but he is hoping that the team does conjure a certain standard which will be coming to their deliverance.
Muzumdar said, “I think a home World Cup, of course, there has to be some kind of pressure. But this side, this particular side, is well-equipped to handle that. We've built a side around it and I think all the players are well-equipped to handle pressure.”
Shedding light on the dearth of centuries from the Indian batters, Muzumdar said, “We are well aware that a three-figure mark hasn't come this World Cup. But if you look at the past year-and-a-half, the 18 months that have passed before the World Cup, we've definitely had a lot of hundreds that we've seen than ever before.”
He further added, “I don't think there is a lot of load on anyone. But we've had honest discussions about it. And the players also have been honest that, 'Yes, instead of a fifty, we could have converted that into a hundred'. They are aware of it. And I'm hopeful that it will come in the next couple of games."
He concluded with a message about how the entire team is planning to set forth the foundation blocks so that Richa can go all guns blazing, stating, "As a batting group, we've discussed we need to get into a certain stage where we can have that, that kind of a liberty for Richa to go out there and play her shots."
