Ashish Nehra backs Shubman Gill to come good in ODIs

There has been a lot of noise around India’s probable opening combination, keeping in mind the future of the Men in Blue and also the possible formats that they can play in. The nation has been pretty abuzz with names like Prithvi Shaw and Ruturaj Gaikwad doing the rounds.

Former Indian fast bowler, Ashish Nehra, however had a suggestion of his own, where he expressed his belief in one of the finest rising sensations for the Men in Blue. Shubman Gill is a part of the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand where he has stitched a fine half-century in the opener while staying unbeaten for a well-constructed 45 at Seddon Park before the rain gods intervened in the second game.

Talking to Prime Video, Ashish Nehra said, “Shubman Gill is one guy who is going to give you big hundreds in 50-overs and Test cricket. He is someone who plays according to the situation and conditions and that's what he has been doing here as well. Before the rain, he had a different mindset and after the break, when Suryakumar Yadav was batting gloriously, he (Gill) had a different mindset because he has all these gears. He is one of the shining lights. There are too many names - Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad - but Shubman Gill is right up there and there is no doubt about that."

Nehra has recently worked with Shubman Gill at the Gujarat Titans in the 2022 edition of the IPL. He will be a vital cog in the plans of the Indian contingent in the coming year with the ODI World Cup around the corner.
