Former India batsman-turned Member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir, is often in news due to his philanthropic initiatives. As India battles the coronavirus pandemic, Gambhir has once again pledged monetary help to counter the deadly virus.

The 2011 world cup final hero said that he has decided to contribute his two years’ salary as an MP to the Prime Minister-CARES fund to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic spreading throughout the country.

The 38-year-old also urged his fellow countrymen to step up and donate generously to help India combat the pandemic.

Gambhir tweeted, “People ask what can their country do for them. The real question is what can you do for your country?”

Gambhir’s announcement came on the day India is celebrating 9 years of its 2nd ODI world cup win in which the left-hander had played a pivotal role, scoring 97 off 122 in a tricky chase against Sri Lanka.

Earlier Gambhir had released INR One crore from his MPLAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development) fund to support the cause.
