India seek victorious ways against Zimbabwe as T20I series begins
India return to T20I action as they lock horns with Zimbabwe in the first T20I in less than 24 hours. With Harare playing host to all three clashes, all eyes will be on India’s batting unit, which might see Vaibhav Sooryavanshi getting the opening slot alongside Abhishek Sharma.
Sooryavanshi had a shaky start to his international career, racking up scores of 14, 13 and 15. Despite the short stays at the crease, Sooryavanshi did look promising in terms of his strokeplay, blending power and accuracy. That will once again be put to the test when he takes guard against Zimbabwe.
Apart from a stacked top order, Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy will also be under the scanner after India suffered defeats in six of the seven games they played across their last couple of series against Ireland and England.
The return of Rinku Singh will be another major boost for the Indian side, particularly in the lower middle order. Singh’s terrific form in the latter half of the 2026 IPL is what brought him back into the side. However, the major concern for India will be their bowling unit.
The Indian bowling attack will comprise a list of fairly inexperienced bowlers, featuring the likes of Yash Thakur, Suryansh Shedge, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav.
Prince Yadav has been impressive in his recent international outings, while the much-talked-about duo of Mayank Yadav and Ashok Sharma have been fairly leaky in recent times. India will have to find a way to put their all-rounders to good use to get the wheels rolling.
Zimbabwe, led by Sikandar Raza, will come out all guns blazing against the mighty Men in Blue. Big names in the side include Ryan Burl, Raza himself, Richard Ngarava, Wessly Madhevere, Blessing Muzarabani and Brian Bennett. Zimbabwe’s recent home form has been strong, with a fine win against Bangladesh in their last T20I series.
One can expect a young Indian side to go all guns blazing against an experienced Zimbabwean side as the series finally gets under way.
Venue Watch:
The track in Harare has traditionally favoured bowlers early on, with shades of spongy bounce and carry that can at times be tricky. However, as the game progresses, batting tends to get easier as the track hardens under the constant beating of the sun.
