India-W start Women’s Asia Cup with challenge against upbeat Thailand-W

The Indian women’s cricket team is all set to step into the continental battlefield as they kick-off their Asia Cup campaign with a clash against Hong Kong in Dubai.

India were humbled in the finale of the last edition by Sri Lanka in a modest-scoring encounter and that is one of the reasons why the Women in Blue will have added incentive to go all in.

India have played Thailand three times so far in the shortest format of the game and they have won all three times, with their last win coming in 2022. For Harmanpreet Kaur and company, they will be hopeful of setting things right after crashing out of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup ahead of the semi-finals.

Thailand, on the contrary, have already started their campaign with a thrilling win against Hong Kong in the tournament opener. Naruemol Chaiwai led the Thai defiance with a gritty 43 while Onnicha Kamchomphu shone bright with figures of 3/27. However, their win against Hong Kong wasn’t perchance. The victory against Hong Kong extended their winning streak to a fourth game, instilling a lot of confidence in the girls ahead of the massive challenge against India.

With the motives on the line, one can expect this clash to be a banger. India will be eyeing a winning start which makes them dangerous and yet they will have to navigate the early jitters of kickstarting a campaign while Thailand will be hoping to force an upset.

Venue Watch:

The surface in Dubai isn’t exactly a straightforward one to bat on. The ball tends to grip to the surface and that is a major challenge for the batters to try and brave. However, in the second half of the contest, with the dew coming on, the track eases out and batting becomes a lot easier.
