It was a brilliant team effort I would say – Shreyanka Patil
The equation between RCB and DC got really tricky towards the end as they lost three quick wickets in the form of Georgia Voll, Richa Ghosh and Smriti Mandhana. Eventually, it was Radha Yadav who came in, stormed a couple of boundaries in the final over and took RCB home. The last ball which Radha smacked for a four had more drama to it as the bails lit up. However, with umpires confirming that RCB had gotten home, it was time for the celebration.
Talking in a post-match interview, Shreyanka Patil revealed the tensions in the dugout during the final over while underlining how the celebrations soon followed suit with RCB crossing the finish line in a nail-biting thriller.
Highlighting how Shreyanka believed that the total was well within RCB’s reach, she said, “After the 2nd timeout we did have a chat saying that if we restrict them to 180-185, it'll be a good one. They went about 20 runs extra than what we thought. But the way Smriti and Voll played, it was a brilliant innings in the middle. Made it look easy like "200, okay, we've got it."
She then followed it up with a very special word about the team, stating, “Each and every player who played this lovely game of cricket, everyone felt that they were the leaders and that's what made us feel special. Everyday we had different Player of the Match, we had different match-winners. It was a brilliant team effort I would say.”
Revealing the tension when the final boundary was stuck, Shreyanka said, “I'm still in shock - the last ball, the bails fell and the ball went to the boundary and I'm like what's happening? Is it a hit wicket, is it a boundary, what should I do. And I'm like "Malo what is it?" and he was like "we won". Okay, so I have to run, that's how the feeling was.”
She concluded with a very special mention for three individuals, adding, “Very special feeling and I would love to mention three people - number one Smriti because she has gone through a lot in the last one and a half months. This win is very special. I would love to dedicate this win to her. Malo and Anya. Today is Anya's son's birthday - first year. I would love to wish him happy birthday. And again Malo - first time he's the head coach for the team and it's a special win for all of us.”
