Looking forward to restarting the training: BCCI

It has been two months since the nation went under lockdown owing to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and all sporting events have been cancelled or suspended until further notice.

According to Times of India reports, the board is seeking a place outside the defined containment zones to kick-start players' outdoor practice along with coaches and management.

The National Cricket Academy (NCA) which is situated in Bengaluru is well-equipped with training facilities, but the concerns are with the number of COVID-19 reported every day. A 100% sanitized environment is required for everyone involved, the plan here is to have a set of players, coaches, and others from the support staff – including catering, security, and housekeeping personnel.

“The safety of the players is the board’s priority. We will have to work on the logistics and see if Bengaluru is safe enough. If things don’t look absolutely fine, then we will look for areas in the country which fall outside the containment zones. The camp will be sanitized. And there is also an option of opening up local stadiums to senior players,” a BCCI official told TOI.

“The players, team management, and the cricket operations team are constantly in touch to deal with every issue,” the official added.

Thermal scanning of temperature, sanitizing and wearing protective masks and gloves are practised everywhere and the same protocols will be followed at the location where the training sessions will take place. Travelling and movement can be a concern, which is why the BCCI looks forward to hearing from the central government before taking any kind of decision.

“There are a lot of logistical issues. BCCI needs government directions and will adhere to it. The flights' schedule and freedom of movement will have to be taken into account. The medical team is also in the loop,” the official said.
