She's actually an Indian version of Wareham - Malolan Rangarajan on Prema Rawat
In the latest iteration of the WPL auction, domestic leg spinner Prema Rawat was signed by RCB as they exercised their RTM and roped her in for INR 20 lakh.
Rawat was a part of the RCB squad last year and played three games. Gifted with variations and an array of tricks up her sleeve, the youngster has a lot of promise.
In the latest episode of RCB Auction Planning, RCB Head Coach Malolan Rangarajan described the final plan that RCB had in mind for Prema Rawat while heaping massive praise on her.
After intense head-scratching sessions in the mock-auction room, RCB could finally sign Rawat at the price they looked to get her for.
Explaining the potential of Rawat to Anya Shrubsole, RCB’s assistant coach, Malolan said, “Prema's upcoming. We think she's got huge potential. She's speaking to the people in the Indian team. She's more or less going to play the next series in T20 for India. Her last game was for India A in Australia. She was the Player of the Tournament there.”
Comparing the different flair that Rawat brings into the mix, Malo added, “They're completely different kind of bowlers. Asha is slow through the air, can turn the ball big. Prema is, before I talk about her bowling, among the best fielders in the country. Bowls faster than Asha, doesn't turn it as much, but more like Wareham. You would say she's actually an Indian version of Wareham, minus the batting.”
The final discussion about Prema as suggested by Malolan was, “Look to RTM her if under 45 (lakhs). You don't have to bid at all. Look to RTM if under 45. So if you don't get Asha also, you just RTM her under 45.” RCB eventually got Prema Rawat for a RTM price of INR 20 lakh while also adding to the ranks the very talented English spinner, Linsey Smith.
