Skill level is the is the biggest part of it – Phil Salt on what makes IPL a hotbed of talent
The Indian Premier League is one of the most glittering franchise tournaments across the world. Apart from its sheen, the sheer volume of talent that the tournament is a hallmark of his success.
It’s not just the Indian stars leaving a mark on the tournament but the overseas players have impressed equally over the span of the last 19 years.
One of the latest sensations to have sparked a storm with the bat has been English batter, Phil Salt. Salt has played an instrumental part in RCB lifting two back-to-back titles while he also was a significant force for the Kolkata Knight Riders when they lifted their third trophy in 2024.
Talking on The Super Over podcast, Salt opened up on what makes the Indian Premier League one of the toughest frays across the world.
Salt said, “I think the skill level is the is the biggest part of it. Any team can come from anywhere on any given day. The pool of quality is so deep compared to any other cricket really. Especially now with it being you know 12-a-side there's all you know you get a team five down you think oh phew! And then the odd impact sub comes in that that's a horrible place to be.”
He further added, “So, I think um just the skill level of it all really, it's been a big trend setter in T20 cricket for the longest time now. Um yeah, it's not for the faint-hearted.”
