The dream was to win this trophy back home – Suryakumar Yadav on winning T20 World Cup in India
It was a brilliant outing for Team India as they lifted their third T20 World Cup, humbling New Zealand by 96 runs in the summit clash. They not only won the crown in the shortest format of the game but also successfully defended their title, becoming the first team ever to win the tournament on home soil.
Talking in a video released by the ICC, Suryakumar Yadav relived the iconic campaign where he led India to the triumph. He also added how being aware of the conditions at home added to Team India’s advantage while underlining that the overall performance of Team India was worth cherishing.
SKY said, “Great, obviously winning in back-to-back. And this was definitely a dream post-2024 T20 World Cup when I started leading the side. The dream was to win this trophy back home.”
Weighing in on how the tournament being in India helped, SKY added, “We knew that this tournament is going to happen in India, so our preparations were spot on. We understood how the conditions will be, what we needed to do, how we wanted to play. I think that was very important, and the way we played throughout the tournament was very well done.”
