Video – Arundhati Reddy's 27-run cameo lights up Trivandrum
After India found themselves in some early trouble in the final T20I against Sri Lanka, it was captain Harmanpreet Kaur who got them out of the soup. However, the platform that Kaur gave them needed a good strong finish and just when it mattered the most, RCB’s latest recruit, Arundhati Reddy, conjured a storm of the highest order to take India to 175.
The first four balls faced by Arundhati Reddy saw her take three quick singles. However, she flipped the equation on its head in no time, concluding Rashmika Sewwandi’s over on a high. She took a single on the last ball to keep the strike for herself in the final over. At the end of the 19th over, Reddy was batting on eight from six balls.
Madara, tasked with the onus of keeping Reddy in check, had no idea what she was up against. The very first ball from Madara saw Reddy coming up with a glorious lofted off-drive. Reddy was quick to move back in the upcoming ball, compelling Madara to follow her. What Madara didn’t realise though is that she was simply being set up for a rampage to follow.
Reddy smashed her over deep square leg before hammering her twice to the fence in the following two balls. The third ball of the over was a full-toss and Reddy went for a whacking straight drive before smashing one past short third to race away 26. She concluded her innings with a single on the fifth ball of the over. She stayed unbeaten for 27 off just 11 balls, clobbering four fours and a six in the process. Reddy’s knock would be a massive boost for RCB in terms of their lower middle-order batting ahead of the upcoming WPL.
