We have an attack that can exploit different surfaces – Andy Flower on RCB’s bowling adaptability
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have put up a clinical show so far in IPL 2026 with the ball. Despite the plethora of high-scoring games all around, RCB’s bowling unit has stayed ahead of the curve and repeatedly provided much-needed breakthroughs in the toughest conditions.
One recent example of RCB’s bowling dominance was their performance against the Delhi Capitals. A side that scored 264 in the game prior to RCB’s clash with them got bundled out for 75. Talking at the pre-match presser ahead of GT vs RCB in Ahmedabad, head coach Andy Flower highlighted the depth of RCB’s bowling unit and how the side is equipped with the vision to exploit conditions in any venue.
Decoding RCB’s phase-wise dominance with the ball, Flower added, “We’ve been very good at taking powerplay wickets and putting opposition under pressure. At the same time, we have strong depth in our batting, which gives the group a lot of confidence.”
Underpinning RCB’s flexibility with the conditions, Flower stated, “We’re comfortable with whatever conditions are put in front of us. We believe we have an attack that can exploit different surfaces and a batting unit that can thrive in any situation.”
Flower also revealed how the team is adapting to the exerting demands of the business end of the tournament, saying, “It’s important not to get into a mindset of trying to hold on to our position. We want to embrace the unpredictability of the game and attack every match with the right attitude.”
Offering insight into RCB’s bowling finesse as a team, Flower stated, “We’ve got a good mix. Experienced swing bowlers, a world-class fast bowler in Hazlewood, and spinners who bring different skill sets. That variety gives us strong options in different phases of the game.”
He concluded with a word about RCB’s captain, Rajat Patidar, saying, “He is leading the side really well. He has strong support around him, and together they are creating a positive environment for the team to perform.”
