From Virat Kohli’s centuries on the trot to Glenn Maxwell’s relentless aggression: Top batting displays for RCB in IPL 2023

The Royal Challengers Bangalore rode high on the collective brilliance produced by skipper Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell to pocket some crucial wins in the league stages of IPL 2023.

Skipper Faf du Plessis was particularly impressive and enjoyed his best season, amassing 730 runs from just 14 matches at a stunning average of 56.15 and a strike rate of 153.68. Faf was complemented fabulously well on different occasions by Kohli and Maxwell, with the former RCB skipper even registering back-to-back hundreds to go on top of the list of most IPL centuries with seven to his name. Maxwell was in prime form too, proving to be a headache for the best of bowlers with his fabulous variety of range-hitting.

On that note, here are the top three displays we saw during IPL 2023 from RCB’s glistening trio.

1.    Virat Kohli – 101* vs GT and 100 vs SRH

Virat Kohli blasted two blistering centuries that saw him piling scores of 101* against Gujarat Titans and 100 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The century against GT was almost a single-handed war that helped RCB put on a challenging total on the board, while Sunrisers incurred the wrath of the former RCB skipper on their home turf - a knock that fuelled RCB’s chase for an important win.

2.    Faf du Plessis – 84 vs PBKS

Punjab Kings were at the receiving end of a dominant Faf du Plessis, who carted the bowling attack to all parts of the ground with an extraordinary brand of strokes and relentless aggression. The PBKS bowlers were sent on a leather hunt as the RCB skipper hammered five fours and five sixes en route to his rollicking 84.

3.    Glenn Maxwell – 77 vs RR

Coming to the crease with RCB in trouble at 12/2 with the team sporting the special Green jersey, the Chinnaswamy crowd was witness to Maxi Mania as the Australian tore into RR’s bowlers and smashed his way to a 44-ball 77 laced with six fours and four sixes. The Royals’ bowlers were simply blown away with a tremendous display of relentless aggression and absolute mercilessness. Maxwell’s aggressive knock, which ended at a strike rate of 175, helped RCB put on a challenging total and eventually seal an important 7-run win at Bengaluru.
