God gives late but it's good - Suyash Sharma reveals the daunting journey behind being a part of the IPL
Being a part of an IPL team is anyone’s dream but the kind of journey that one needs to take in its wake is one rife with thorns. No matter the conditions, no matter the challenges, you simply keep on going at it. One of RCB’s rising sensations, Suyash Sharma revealed the trials and tribulations he had to undergo before making it to the IPL.
Talking on a feature on RCB Bold Diaries, Suyash revealed how he went from not being picked for the IPL trials over and over again to one fine day, when it just clicked. He revealed the travails of the entire journey while also highlighting how one good day can be a fortune-turner if the belief reigns supreme.
Suyash said, “I had attended the trials for six to seven years but I was never picked. I don’t know, maybe they didn’t like me. Whenever my uncle used to come home, he used to ask me when I was going to play the IPL. But my mom and my dad never doubted me. Because they could see my hard work.”
He further added, “I used to leave at 5 am at times or at 7 am at times and I would return home at night. After the U-25, I went for IPL trials. In the IPL trials, they look for what sets you apart from the rest and that’s why they hold it in the first place.”
Suyash continued, “During the trials, my googly was very sharp and in one game, I claimed eight dismissals. It was a practice match in KKR. Even the keeper was getting beat. They liked my googly a lot. That’s how KKR picked me. The environment at home was very good. My dad was in the hospital at that time. He was crying while talking to me. My uncle was also there. No one expected me to play in the IPL so soon.”
He concluded by saying, “I had faith that it would be good. In one year so much had happened and things turned around that I even played in the IPL. IPL is not smaller than state-level. It is the biggest league in the world. But whatever happens, it happens for the best. God gives late but it’s good.”
