I go with the flow - Abhishek Sharma decodes his fearless batting approach

Abhishek Sharma has enjoyed a dream run in the 2025 Asia Cup, taking on bowlers as early as from the first ball of the game. After failing to capitalise on a couple of fine starts, Sharma has wreaked sheer havoc in consecutive matches, and against Bangladesh, the dynamic opener was at his aggressive best. Racking up a fiery 37-ball-75 that fuelled India to a match-winning total of 168/6, Sharma bagged the Player of the Match award as India sailed into the final of the tournament.
Talking at the post-match presentation, Sharma clarified his intentions with which he comes out to bat. While he did uncharacteristically take a while to get into his groove against Bangladesh, it was eventually the 10th ball that he faced which flew away for a maximum. Before that, he did score a boundary against Nasum in the second over of the innings but that had an element of fortune added to it.
Speaking on his approach to batting, Sharma said, “I got the job done for my team, I have told before also, I go with the flow. When it's in my range, I go after it even if it's the first ball and try to get the powerplay for my team. In a few matches, I wanted to go after the first ball because there are certain bowlers who want to get a wicket off the first ball.”
Shedding light on the conditions, Sharma added, “This was a fresh wicket, I wanted to have a look, the ball was swinging and seaming. So me and Shubman decided to have a look and then go. I always wanted to go with the field, I always see the field and then go for my shots. I want to play according to the field.”
He concluded with a word about his practice sessions, adding, “I have done a lot of work in the practice sessions, that is a time when the batter gets to play a lot of balls. When you play too many shots in the net, you can get out but I practice and try not to get out in the nets.”
