Not easy to bowl the way he does - Malolan Rangarajan on Suyash Sharma's peculiar action
Suyash Sharma’s bowling has definitely been the talk of the town in recent times. His frugal spells have left the oppositions reeling in quite a bit of bother across IPL 2025. However, what’s even crazier is the bowling action that he has bowled with, where Suyash looks at the skies before rolling his arms and the sheer control that is needed to land the ball in place has been even more impressive.
Talking on the RCB Bold Diaries, Malolan Rangarajan, the spin bowling coach of the RCB men’s team and Suyash himself decoded the spinner's bowling action that has been creating quite a stir in recent times. Malo had his own explanation of the entire run-up while Suyash was very light-headed about it.
Malolan said, “I think he has a very peculiar action. Not as peculiar as Paul Adams. But it’s some sort of a skill to be able to look at the skies. Maybe he is asking God to pay heed every time he bowls but it’s not easy to bowl the way he does. His super skills are the speed at which he bowls and the deception he gets off the pitch. The ability to beat the bat on both edges, I think, is something that holds him in very good stead.”
Talking about his own bowling action, Suyash said, “It’s all natural. I haven’t done any such work. I have tried to improve some things but when I look up, I don’t know. Earlier, I used to bowl leg spin as well, but then I realized that there’s a ball called googly that isn’t read well. I was very young at that time. I practiced bowling the googly so much that I forgot about leg spin. I used to bowl leg spin, it turned into googlies, now just think of it.”
